The Friends of Adams Farm is a group of area residents dedicated to the preservation of Adams Farm. The Adams Farm property includes approximately 365 acres of town-owned land, additional acreage held in adjacent land conservation trusts, and land owned by the New England Forestry Foundation and the Norfolk County Agricultural School, for a total of over 700 acres open to the public for low-impact recreation.
By maintaining the farm in its natural state, the Friends of Adams Farm hope to foster a greater appreciation of the outdoors among local residents and impress upon them the importance of protecting the open spaces we have left for future generations.
FOAF Launches Seed Library
In a partnership with the Walpole Public Library, the Friends of Adams Farm is starting a Seed Library. The mission of the Seed Library is to collect, share, and save bio-diverse, locally-adapted plant seeds, cultivated by and for residents of Walpole and the surrounding area. The Seed Library offers people the opportunity to “borrow” seeds for free. The goal is to create a self-sustaining library where growers “borrow” seeds, then save and return seeds to the Library after they have harvested their crops.
Since this is the first year of the Walpole Seed Library, only deposits (or “returns”) will be accepted this season. Seeds will be available for withdrawal in 2015. Please join us in creating this free seed base that will help maintain plant diversity and encourage a connection with nature in our community. Seeds may be dropped off at the 2nd floor reference desk at the Library or mailed to: The Seed Library, c/o Walpole Public Library, 143 School Street, Walpole, MA 02081. Explore the Upper Orange Trail!
For the adventurous, the Upper Orange Trail provides a more demanding hike along the southern edge of the Adams Farm property. The first challenge is finding the trailhead, hidden in the trees to the left of the main trail just after it enters the woods. Click here to find out more about this scenic, hour-long hike.
